Traer Winding Stairs Festival 2018

Traer, Iowa is hosting its annual Winding Stairs Festival August 10-12, 2018 with free live bands, great food and refreshments, kids inflatables, games, and activities.

Friday’s lineup includes Mollie B and the Jim Busta Band with Karl, Farm Rock, free kolaches @7pm while they last (but they won’t last long), and free TMU bucket rides.

Saturday’s events include a 5k run/walk, first annual Mike Pargeon Smokeoff (meat smoking must be on site), co-ed slow pitch softball, free pancake breakfast @8am, 32-team corn hole competition, a family friendly movie, game liner, mechanical bull, grand parade @5pm, dueling pianos featuring Andy Anderson and Mike Leeds, and a live performance by Standing Hampton.

On Sunday, the Co-ed softball tournament will finish up, the North Tama Booster Club will have a golf tournament, and the Traer Chamber of Commerce will host a “Shine and Show” car show with judging at 1pm and awards at 2pm.

Clutier Czech Day 2018

Clutier, Iowa will be having its Clutier Czech Day on Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.  A Czech bakery will be set up early on Main Street featuring kolaches and other delicious snacks.  The Tama County Pork Producers will be serving from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. along with other food vendors.  The Clutier Firemen will be having their annual hog roast in the evening.

A 5k run/walk will start the morning off and there will be a flea market all day at the ZCBJ Hall.  The veteran, kiddie, and grand parade will all happen before lunch.  Dave’s Little Big Band will be performing after lunch and Wikid Liker will perform in the evening.  There will also be a kids tractor pull, library auction, and bike give-away.  A street cruise will round out the day.

Fun Nite for the Nature Center 2018

Due to the weather, the Fun Nite has been postponed to April 7, 2018.

Otter Creek Lake & Park will be hosting a Fun Nite for the Nature Center fundraiser on Saturday, March 24, 2018.  Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and a all-you-can-eat buffet meal will be served by “My Mother’s Place”.  A silent and live auction will take place as well, with donations ranging from kolaches, wood working, art, bird houses, pies, jewelry, and crafts.  This year’s program is entitled “Iowa Falcons: A Conservation Story” and will be presented by Shawn Hawks from the Iowa Raptor Project; he will have a live American Kestrel and Peregrine Falcon on hand, to help tell the story of the decline and success of their populations.  For more information on this and other programs at the Nature Center, call 641-484-2231 or go to http://www.goo.gl/aYNLZP.

Otter Creek Lake & Park Fall Festival 2017

Otter Creek Lake & Park will be having a fall festival on Sunday, October 8, 2017, from noon to 4:00 p.m.  Most of the activities will be at the Nature Center at 2283 Park Road, Toledo, Iowa.  Enjoy hands-on activities like archery, air rifle range, apple cider press, reptile meet & greet, and nature crafts.  Outdoor demonstrations include bowfishing and field dog trials.  Iowa State University will present a program on its insect zoo with live insects at 1:00 p.m.; and Iowa Honey Queen Carly Ray Vannoy will be speaking at 3:00 p.m.  Walking tacos, hot dogs, polish sausages and hand-breaded tenderloins will be available for purchase at the mini marketplace along with kolaches, scotcheroos, and kettlecorn.  For more information, call 641-484-2231, or go to http://www.tamacounty.org/conserv.html.

Fun in the Sun is the theme for this year’s Winding Stairs Festival on August 10-13, 2017 in Traer, Iowa. On Thursday, the junior and high school will be having a glow-in-the-dark six hole 2 person best shot golf tournament at 8:30 p.m.  Friday’s events include a giant lawn twister for kids of all ages, a sand castle building contest, kids inflatables, TMU bucket rides, and kids activities.  There will be free kolaches at the beer garden at 7:00 p.m. while they last.  Mollie B and the Jim Busta Band with Karl will be performing at 5:45 p.m.; and Farm Rock will be performing at 8:30 p.m.  A 5k run/walk will start off Saturday’s events along with a slow pitch softball tournament.  A free pancake breakfast will be offered at the Traer Memorial Building.  Other events on Saturday include a bean bag competition, human foosball, a beach themed cooking contest, sand volleyball and the grand parade at 5:00 p.m..  Andy Anderson and Mike Leeds Dueling Pianos will be performing at 7:00 p.m. and Sweet Siren will perform at 9:00 p.m. The softball tournament will wrap up on Sunday.

Clutier Band Concert July 2017

Clutier will be hosting another summer band concert this Saturday, July 8, 2017.  Mollie B, Jim Busta, and Karl will be performing live on Main Street from 7-9 pm.  Pork loin sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, chips & drinks will be served beginning at 5:00 p.m.  And as always, there will be kolaches and other Czech bakery for sale.  For more information, call 319-442-7613 or 319-479-2518.

Traer will be hosting its annual Winding Stairs Festival this Friday and Saturday, August 7, 2015 and August 8, 2015 along the 400 block of Second Street.  Fridays events include kids inflatables and games, zip line, caricature, kolaches, TMU bucket rides, and a “load em’ up” contest in which teams will have three minutes to see how many people they can load into a 1960 Buick.  Also on Friday, the Barefoot Becky Trio will be performing at 6:00 p.m. and Cody Hicks will be performing at 8:30 p.m.  Saturday’s events include a 5k run/walk, free pancake breakfast, dodge ball tournament, laser tag, petting zoo, face painting, caricature, inflatables, and grand parade at 5:00 p.m.  Live entertainment on Saturday includes Dueling Pianos at 7:00 p.m. and Sweet Siren Band at 9:00 p.m.  For more information, go to http://www.traer.com.

Toledo Farmers Market 2011 (1)

Farmers markets are starting up across Tama County this summer.  You will find lots of great home grown produce and homemade bakery including breads, cookies, pies, kolaches, rolicky, and cinnamon rolls.

The Toledo Farmers Market is on Fridays and runs from May 5 through October 27, 2017 from 5-7 pm at the courthouse square, 100 W. High Street, Toledo.

The Dysart Farmers Market is on Tuesdays and runs from May 30 through October 3, 2017 from 4-6 pm at the city park on Sherman Street, Dysart.

The Gladbrook Farmers Market is on Wednesdays and runs from June 7 through September 27, 2017 from 5-7 pm at the United Methodist Church parking lot, 715 Lincoln, Gladbrook.

Fun Night for the Nature Center

The Tama County Otter Creek Nature Center will be holding its annual fundraiser for the facility on Saturday, March 28, 2015, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Nature Center, 2283 Park Road, Toledo, Iowa.  There will be a buffet meal, and silent and open auctions.  Auction items include kolaches, wood working, bird houses, pies, jewelry, quilts, dried flower arrangements, and photography. This year’s program, “Engaging Wilderness in Your Backyard”, will be presented by Chris Anderson of Cedar Falls, a former wilderness ranger and naturalist.  Advance tickets are required.  Contact Bob Etzel at 641-484-2231 for more information.
