Gilligan’s Island – the Musical

The Wolf Creek Players will be presenting Gilligan’s Island – the Musical this Friday through Sunday, April 12-14, 2019 at the Union Middle School, 505 West Street in Dysart, Iowa.  Performances are 7:00 p.m. Friday, 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Saturday, and 2:00 p.m. Sunday.  You won’t want to miss this fun performance with Gilligan’s clumsiness, Ginger’s kisses, Professor’s knowledge, the Howells’ dancing, and Green Creatures!  Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and children age 5 and under get in free.  Call 319-239-8660 for more information.

Hunters’ Harvest Breakfast

The Christ United Methodist Church will be having their annual Hunters’ Harvest Breakfast on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at 301 S. The Doo Wops are coming to Dysart!

The Doo Wops are coming to Dysart, Iowa on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  They will be performing your favorite 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s music at the Dysart Park Gazebo.  It’s sponsored by the Dysart Historical Society which is taking free will donations.  Soft drinks and water are available.  Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the afternoon in Dysart!

Tama-Toledo Chamber Car Show

The Tama-Toledo Chamber will be hosting its annual car show on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in downtown Tama, Iowa.  The show opens at 10:00 a.m. and judging begins at 12:00 p.m.  The awards ceremony will be at 3:00 p.m. with dash plaques for each entry and a trophy for the top 20.  For more information, call 641-484-6661 or email tama.toledochamber@gmail.com.

Taste of Dysart 2018

Dysart, Iowa will be hosting its annual Taste of Dysart – Wine Tasting on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Come to Main Street and see your favorite stores turned into speakeasies!  Come in costume to enter the grand prize drawings.  Prohibition cocktails at designated destinations.  For more information, follow Downtown Dysart on Facebook.

Traer Winding Stairs Festival 2019

Traer, Iowa is hosting its annual Winding Stairs Festival August 9-11, 2019 with free live bands, great food and refreshments, kids inflatables, games, and activities.

Friday’s lineup includes Mollie B and the Jim Busta Band with Karl, laser tag, inflatables, TMU bucket rides, free kolaches @7pm while they last (but they won’t last long), and Cody Hicks.

Saturday’s events include a 5k run/walk, pancake breakfast @8am, 32-team corn hole competition, a family friendly movie, game liner, grand parade @5pm, dueling pianos featuring Andy Anderson and Mike Leeds, and a live performance by Standing Hampton.

On Sunday, the Traer Chamber of Commerce will host a “Shine and Show” car show with judging at 1pm and awards at 2pm.

Tama County Fair 2019

The 2019 Tama County Fair will be in Gladbrook, Iowa, Monday, July 15, 2018 through Saturday, July 20, 2019.

Tama County youth from 4-H club organizations and FFA chapters will display exhibits & animals daily.  Events include fair queen selection on Tuesday, fashion show on Wednesday, Pee Wee Wranglers on Friday, and Fun Night on Saturday.  Each day is full of kids’ crafts, activities, and time to tour the exhibit buildings.  There will be Master Gardners giving presentations and having fun activities for the kids, the Iowa Corn Trailer, and story hour by the Gladbrook Library.  The Tama County Conservation Board will be bring some scaly, slithery, and slimy friends to meet.  For more details, go to http://www.extension.iastate.edu/tama.

Chelsea Car Show 2019

Chelsea, Iowa will be hosting its 9th Annual Chelsea Car Show on Saturday, July 27, 2019 (rain or shine).  Dash plaques will be given to the first 400 entries and awards to the top 75 (voting by registered participants), plus 25 judged awards.  Registration is from 8-11am; participant voting from 11am-1pm; and award presentation at 2pm.  For more information, go to “Chelsea Car Show’ on Facebook.

Meskwaki Powwow 2018

The Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa will be holding its 104th annual Meskwaki Powwow Thursday-Sunday, August 9-12, 2018 at the Meskwaki Settlement powwow site, which is 4 miles west of Tama, Iowa.  Grand entry on each day is at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  Thursday is children’s day, Friday is senior’s day, and Saturday is veteran’s day with special pricing for those individuals.  During the 4-day affair, the gathered Indians celebrate and perform, in full-dress regalia, dances that have been handed down for generations.  For more details, go to http://www.meskwakipowwow.com.

 

Dysart 4th of July 2019

Dysart, Iowa has lots of activities planned for the 4th of July in 2019.  Attractions include a screamer slide, leaps and bounds, extreme jungle gym, a Lil’ Builders Toddler Zone; and lots of treats including mini donuts, funnel cakes, cotton candy, slushies, LB’s pizza, Chinese food, turkey legs, brats & hot dogs, and fried pickles.

Events on Wednesday, July 3 include a slow pitch softball tournament, kiddie parade, and firemen’s dance featuring Cody Hicks.  The Little Knights Learning Center will have floats & sundaes.  The beer garden will be open and the Lions Club will be serving tenderloins at 5:00 p.m.

Events on Thursday, July 4 start with a 5k run/walk, grand parade, pork chop dinner, kiddie tractor pull, cake walk, free throw contest, cow chip bingo, bags tournament, brownie baking contest, talent show, and fireworks at dusk.  DJ with a Beat will be on from 12:30 to 4:30.
