Lincoln Highway Bridge Festival 2018

.

 

The Lincoln Highway Bridge Festival will be Friday and Saturday, May 18, 2018 and May 19, 2018 in downtown Tama, Iowa.  The carnival will be in town both days and the family food court will be across from city hall.

Friday’s activities include an ice cream social, wine and cheese tasting, the Tama Citizen of the Year presentation, performances by the Tri-County Community Band, the Harding Street Singers, the STC Middle School Jazz Band and the STC High School Jazz Band.  There will be a street dance as well featuring Hold for Swank and Monkey Finger.

Saturday’s activities include the firefighters’ pancake breakfast, a Bloody Mary bar, a 5k run, parade @10am, and a bean bag tournament.  Gail’s Academy of Dance will be performing along with Sheltered Reality and My Fellow Americans.  The Grout Museum will present “Creepy Crawlies”.  Kids activities include a balloon artist, a caricature artist, water fights and a nickel scramble.

Vining Flea Market & Auction 2018

Vining will be hosting its 41st annual Flea Market of antiques and collectibles on Sunday, April 8, 2018, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the C.S.A. Fun Nite for the Nature Center 2018

Due to the weather, the Fun Nite has been postponed to April 7, 2018.

Otter Creek Lake & Park will be hosting a Fun Nite for the Nature Center fundraiser on Saturday, March 24, 2018.  Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and a all-you-can-eat buffet meal will be served by “My Mother’s Place”.  A silent and live auction will take place as well, with donations ranging from kolaches, wood working, art, bird houses, pies, jewelry, and crafts.  This year’s program is entitled “Iowa Falcons: A Conservation Story” and will be presented by Shawn Hawks from the Iowa Raptor Project; he will have a live American Kestrel and Peregrine Falcon on hand, to help tell the story of the decline and success of their populations.  For more information on this and other programs at the Nature Center, call 641-484-2231 or go to http://www.goo.gl/aYNLZP.

Dysart’s Shop Hop

Join us in Dysart on March 24, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the Dysart Shop Hop featuring the annual chocolate walk.  The Easter Bunny will make a grand appearance at 12:15 p.m. followed by an old fashioned cake walk for kids in the center of Main Street with 25-30 fabulous cakes provided by local businesses.  The event is sponsored by the Dysart Development Corporation.  For more information, check out their Facebook page: “Downtown Dysart”.

The Lincoln Fire Department will be hosting its annual omelet breakfast at the Amvet Hall in Lincoln, Iowa, on Sunday, February 11, 2018, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Vining Rocky Mountain Oyster Festival

Vining is having its annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Festival this Friday, February 2, 2018, starting at 5:00 p.m. at the CSA Hall on Main Street in Vining, Iowa. They will be serving rocky mountain oysters, fish, baked beans, chips, and drinks.  There will be games, raffles, and door prizes.

Lincoln AmVets Prime Rib Supper 2017

Otter Creek Lake & Park Fall Festival 2017

Otter Creek Lake & Park will be having a fall festival on Sunday, October 8, 2017, from noon to 4:00 p.m.  Most of the activities will be at the Nature Center at 2283 Park Road, Toledo, Iowa.  Enjoy hands-on activities like archery, air rifle range, apple cider press, reptile meet & greet, and nature crafts.  Outdoor demonstrations include bowfishing and field dog trials.  Iowa State University will present a program on its insect zoo with live insects at 1:00 p.m.; and Iowa Honey Queen Carly Ray Vannoy will be speaking at 3:00 p.m.  Walking tacos, hot dogs, polish sausages and hand-breaded tenderloins will be available for purchase at the mini marketplace along with kolaches, scotcheroos, and kettlecorn.  For more information, call 641-484-2231, or go to http://www.tamacounty.org/conserv.html.

A Walk in the Woods

The Wolf Creek Players are presenting “A Walk in the Woods” at the St. Joseph’s Building, 101 Clark Street, Dysart, Iowa, on Friday through Sunday, September 29, 2017 – October 1, 2017.  Performances will be at 7pm on Friday, and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.  Tickets are $10.

Written by Lee Blessing in 1988, the setting is a mountain lodge outside Geneva, Switzerland.  Two arms limitation negotiators, an American and a Russian, leave the negotiations table to walk in the woods and simply talk, forming a friendship.  For more information, call 319-239-8660.

Murder at the Wieting!

The Kiwanis Players and the Wieting Theatre present the Mysterious, Gruesome, yet Morbidly Fascinating Murder at the Wieting on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.  Free will donation.

This original play revolves around the death of Prunella Proctologist, a universally disliked person that almost everyone wants to murder.  Her life is cruelly dispatched by any number of suspects who are actors, playing actors, in this 1942 radio play.  Is the murder the local mortician, a respected financier, or house cleaner and spy?  Those are just a few of the characters who are prime suspects.
