Lincoln AmVets Prime Rib Supper 2017

Help support your local veterans and enjoy a fabulous prime rib meal sponsored by the Lincoln AmVets Post #10.  It will be held at the AmVet Hall on Main Street in Lincoln, Iowa, on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Come early to enjoy some cocktails and socialize before the meal.  Raffle items include a quarter beef and a Charles Freitag print.  For more details, call 641-473-2152.

Otter Creek Lake & Park Fall Festival 2017

Otter Creek Lake & Park will be having a fall festival on Sunday, October 8, 2017, from noon to 4:00 p.m.  Most of the activities will be at the Nature Center at 2283 Park Road, Toledo, Iowa.  Enjoy hands-on activities like archery, air rifle range, apple cider press, reptile meet & greet, and nature crafts.  Outdoor demonstrations include bowfishing and field dog trials.  Iowa State University will present a program on its insect zoo with live insects at 1:00 p.m.; and Iowa Honey Queen Carly Ray Vannoy will be speaking at 3:00 p.m.  Walking tacos, hot dogs, polish sausages and hand-breaded tenderloins will be available for purchase at the mini marketplace along with kolaches, scotcheroos, and kettlecorn.  For more information, call 641-484-2231, or go to http://www.tamacounty.org/conserv.html.

A Walk in the Woods

The Wolf Creek Players are presenting “A Walk in the Woods” at the St. Joseph’s Building, 101 Clark Street, Dysart, Iowa, on Friday through Sunday, September 29, 2017 – October 1, 2017.  Performances will be at 7pm on Friday, and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.  Tickets are $10.

Written by Lee Blessing in 1988, the setting is a mountain lodge outside Geneva, Switzerland.  Two arms limitation negotiators, an American and a Russian, leave the negotiations table to walk in the woods and simply talk, forming a friendship.  For more information, call 319-239-8660.

Murder at the Wieting!

The Kiwanis Players and the Wieting Theatre present the Mysterious, Gruesome, yet Morbidly Fascinating Murder at the Wieting on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.  Free will donation.

This original play revolves around the death of Prunella Proctologist, a universally disliked person that almost everyone wants to murder.  Her life is cruelly dispatched by any number of suspects who are actors, playing actors, in this 1942 radio play.  Is the murder the local mortician, a respected financier, or house cleaner and spy?  Those are just a few of the characters who are prime suspects.

Taste of Dysart Fall Festival 2017

The Dysart Development Corporation and Dysart Business Builders are sponsoring the 13th annual Taste of Dysart Fall Festival on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in downtown Dysart, Iowa.  There will be food, including BBQ, as well as tastings of Iowa wines.  Billy Heller will be performing live.  For more things to do in Dysart, check out their Facebook page at “Downtown Dysart”.

 

 

Tama-Toledo Car Show 2017

The Tama-Toledo Chamber will be hosting a car show in downtown Tama, Iowa on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Registration will be at the Tama Civic Center.  The car show opens at 10:00 a.m. with the judging beginning at 12:00 p.m.  The awards ceremony will be at 3:00 p.m.  There will be trophies for the top 20 and $400 for the best of show.  For more information, check out their Facebook page at “Tama-Toledo Chamber Car Show”.

Traer Winding Stairs Festival 2017

Fun in the Sun is the theme for this year’s Winding Stairs Festival on August 10-13, 2017 in Traer, Iowa. On Thursday, the junior and high school will be having a glow-in-the-dark six hole 2 person best shot golf tournament at 8:30 p.m.  Friday’s events include a giant lawn twister for kids of all ages, a sand castle building contest, kids inflatables, TMU bucket rides, and kids activities.  There will be free kolaches at the beer garden at 7:00 p.m. while they last.  Mollie B and the Jim Busta Band with Karl will be performing at 5:45 p.m.; and Farm Rock will be performing at 8:30 p.m.  A 5k run/walk will start off Saturday’s events along with a slow pitch softball tournament.  A free pancake breakfast will be offered at the Traer Memorial Building.  Other events on Saturday include a bean bag competition, human foosball, a beach themed cooking contest, sand volleyball and the grand parade at 5:00 p.m..  Andy Anderson and Mike Leeds Dueling Pianos will be performing at 7:00 p.m. and Sweet Siren will perform at 9:00 p.m. The softball tournament will wrap up on Sunday.
