Hunters’ Harvest Breakfast

The Christ United Methodist Church will be having their annual Hunters’ Harvest Breakfast on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at 301 S. Broadway, Toledo, Iowa.  The menu includes scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, biscuits & gravy, jelly, juice and coffee.  Tickets are $8.  For more information, call the church office at 641-484-3564.

Tama-Toledo Chamber Car Show

The Tama-Toledo Chamber will be hosting its annual car show on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in downtown Tama, Iowa.  The show opens at 10:00 a.m. and judging begins at 12:00 p.m.  The awards ceremony will be at 3:00 p.m. with dash plaques for each entry and a trophy for the top 20.  For more information, call 641-484-6661 or email tama.toledochamber@gmail.com.

Toledo Stoplight Festival 2018

Toledo, Iowa will be hosting its annual Stoplight Festival on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the courthouse square.  Bring lawn chairs or blankets and settle in for an evening of fun!  Toledo’s weekly farmers market will be happening from 5-7pm.

Festival events include kids water fights sponsored by the fire department, food vendors, a magician and gigantic bounce house.  The State Historical Society will have its mobile museum there and the National Guard will have a rock climbing wall.  Chad Elliott will be performing from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels will be performing from 7-9 pm.

Double D Rodeo 2018

The Double D Rodeo will be on Friday and Saturday, August 3 & 4, 2018, at the Dennis Dostal farm, 2017 Highway E29, rural Toledo, Iowa.  That’s 7 miles north of Toledo on Highway 63, then 1/2 mile east on County Road E29.   There will also be kids wooly-bully rides, the Equestrian Drill Team, a wild cow race, sheep scramble, petting zoo, food concessions, and a beer tent.  Lonesome Road will be performing live both nights.  All proceeds will benefit Easter Seals.  For more information, call 641-750-7757.

Fun Nite for the Nature Center 2018

Due to the weather, the Fun Nite has been postponed to April 7, 2018.

Otter Creek Lake & Park will be hosting a Fun Nite for the Nature Center fundraiser on Saturday, March 24, 2018.  Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and a all-you-can-eat buffet meal will be served by “My Mother’s Place”.  A silent and live auction will take place as well, with donations ranging from kolaches, wood working, art, bird houses, pies, jewelry, and crafts.  This year’s program is entitled “Iowa Falcons: A Conservation Story” and will be presented by Shawn Hawks from the Iowa Raptor Project; he will have a live American Kestrel and Peregrine Falcon on hand, to help tell the story of the decline and success of their populations.  For more information on this and other programs at the Nature Center, call 641-484-2231 or go to http://www.goo.gl/aYNLZP.

The Dysart Fire Department is hosting its annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at the Dysart, Iowa fire station on Main Street from 7:00 a.m. to noon.  The menu includes sausage patties and light golden brown pancakes.  It’s a free will donation.

Otter Creek Lake & Park Fall Festival 2017

Otter Creek Lake & Park will be having a fall festival on Sunday, October 8, 2017, from noon to 4:00 p.m.  Most of the activities will be at the Nature Center at 2283 Park Road, Toledo, Iowa.  Enjoy hands-on activities like archery, air rifle range, apple cider press, reptile meet & greet, and nature crafts.  Outdoor demonstrations include bowfishing and field dog trials.  Iowa State University will present a program on its insect zoo with live insects at 1:00 p.m.; and Iowa Honey Queen Carly Ray Vannoy will be speaking at 3:00 p.m.  Walking tacos, hot dogs, polish sausages and hand-breaded tenderloins will be available for purchase at the mini marketplace along with kolaches, scotcheroos, and kettlecorn.  For more information, call 641-484-2231, or go to http://www.tamacounty.org/conserv.html.

Murder at the Wieting!

The Kiwanis Players and the Wieting Theatre present the Mysterious, Gruesome, yet Morbidly Fascinating Murder at the Wieting on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.  Free will donation.

This original play revolves around the death of Prunella Proctologist, a universally disliked person that almost everyone wants to murder.  Her life is cruelly dispatched by any number of suspects who are actors, playing actors, in this 1942 radio play.  Is the murder the local mortician, a respected financier, or house cleaner and spy?  Those are just a few of the characters who are prime suspects.

Double D Rodeo 2017

The Double D Rodeo & Pony Express Riders of Iowa will be hosting its 40th annual rodeo on Friday & Saturday, August 4 & 5, 2017, at the Dostal family ranch which is 7 miles north of Toledo, Iowa on Highway 63, then 1/2 mile east on Highway E-29.  There will be wooly bully rides at 6:00 p.m. and the rodeo starts at 7:00 p.m.  Entertainment includes an equestrian drill team, a wild cow race, sheep scramble, and petting zoo.  Food concessions and beverages will be available. A dance both nights will feature Eight Seconds.

While you’re in the area, stop by Clutier for the Bohemian Plum Festival on August 4 & 5, 2017 as well.
